Steve Hammond
Born and raised in Denver, Colo., Steve Hammond is a retired federal employee with a 40-year career as an earth scientist with the United States Geological Survey. He is a member of the Friends of the Thomas Balch Library Black History Committee, a charter member of the Sons and Daughters of the United States Middle Passage and a member of the Society of the First African Families of English America. Hammond was named a Virginia Humanities Scholar for his work in exploring African-American life and achievement in Virginia and was the recipient of the 2023 Meritorious Achievement Award from the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society. He is also a film executive producer.
