Garden Rooms
Oatlands is a place of reflection, renewal and shared heritage.
Gardens “rooms”, each with their own personality and aesthetic
When restoring the gardens in the early 20th century, Mrs. Eustis was inspired by many of the garden design trends of her era, including the Arts and Crafts concept of dividing gardens into “rooms”, each with their own personality and aesthetic. Oatlands gardens today reflect her skillful decision-making, and a number of the garden areas are popular to rent for an event, in particular the Magnolia Terrace and the Tea House. Virginia native plants coupled with cultivars offer a seasonal interest from spring through fall in the Historic Walled Gardens.
Our gardens create a delightful venue for small weddings, family gatherings, or special celebrations. The gardens can accommodate 40 to 50 people at tables, or ceremonies of up to 80 people. The gardens’ stone and brick walkways are sometimes uneven, so guests with mobility issues may need assistance. Restrooms are nearby, and the quiet privacy, coupled with the walled gardens’ foliage, makes for a beautiful outdoor event location.
