Loudoun in Colonial Times

Step into the world of colonial Loudoun County through an immersive, inquiry-based program that brings history to life. Using primary source documents and hands-on exploration, students uncover the diverse experiences of the people who lived on the Carter family’s Goose Creek tract and in the surrounding region.

Participants examine the lives and perspectives of the planter elite, tenant farmers, enslaved and free Black individuals, and women, gaining a deeper understanding of how these groups-built communities, navigated social structures, and interacted with one another. Through critical thinking and evidence-based discussion, students develop a more complete and nuanced view of colonial society in Loudoun County.
