Mansion Tour (60 minutes):
Tours available daily at 11am, 12pm, and 2pm. Tours must be booked at least 24-hours in advance. (Walk-ins accepted based on docent availability)
Docents will be available for walk-in Mansion tours on weekends between the hours of 11am and 2pm, on the hour.
An interpretive guide leads you through the first floor of the mansion, discussing the lives of the families who owned Oatlands, the history of the house, and choice pieces of the collection of furniture, portraits, and decorative objects. Visitors are encouraged to advance onto the second floor self-guided to explore.
Plan ahead: The mansion does not have air conditioning, and can be quite warm during the summer.
Enslavement at Oatlands (60 minutes):

“Oatlands” would not have been possible without the enslaved people who lived and worked here. By 1860 the Carters were the largest slave owners in Loudoun County with 133 enslaved men, women, and children.
Plan ahead: This tour takes you across uneven terrain, gravel paths, and grassy areas- please plan ahead and dress appropriately for this outdoor walking tour.

Garden Tour (60 minutes):

Tour the garden with an experienced guide as they relate the full history of the 4.5 acres from it’s beginnings in the early 19th century to it’s transformation into a pleasure garden. Learn about the different areas of the garden and how they evolved over the years as well as the current philosophy of the garden, plantings, trees and structures.
Plan ahead: Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for this outdoor walking tour.

From Plantation to Country Estate (90 minutes):

This outdoor walking tour explores the developed portions of the property as it began at the turn of the 19th century during the Carter family ownership, into the 20th century with the Eustis family. An interpretive guide leads guests through locations not commonly seen such as the 19th century barn complex and remnants of the only remaining cobblestone road in Loudoun County. Learn how Oatlands continues to evolve into the 21st century.
Plan ahead: Wear comfortable shoes, and in warmer weather, wear sunscreen, and bring water.

Architecture Tour (90 minutes):

Learn more about the architecture at Oatlands with a special tour of the buildings and property. Oatlands offers examples of elegant Classical architecture, unique early 19th-century outbuildings, and a rustic carriage house that was state-of-the-art when built in the early 1900s.

Art Tour (90 minutes):

From early American Portraits to pottery, enjoy a tour focused on the art at Oatlands, which includes examples from many different periods and styles along with some interesting anecdotes. The extended Eustis family in particular had a great impact on the art world and ties to the ‘Monuments Men’ and the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
Plan ahead: Please be advised of accessibility issues as there are stairs to get into the Mansion and we will be visiting the second floor.
