Schutz, Caleb M. | CEO

Caleb Schutz, CEO of OatlandsCalen Schutz, CEO

With more than 25 years of years of experience, Caleb Schutz is an innovator and thought leader in the non-profit and philanthropic sectors. In his current role as CEO of Oatlands Historic House and Gardens, he is using unique strategies to revitalize the property and to give a 360-degree view of its history. Caleb has employed this same strategic thinking in his prior positions as President of the National Geographic Society’s, The JASON Project, Corporate Vice-President and President of the MCI Foundation, and Program Director at IBM.

In his tenure at Oatlands Historic House and Gardens, Caleb is developing and implementing strategies to give visitors world-class experiences in conservation, history, research, and education. Oatlands has a focus on understanding its history in order to inform and help build a better future. The property spanning 400 acres includes 20 historic structures, a 4.5-acre English garden and 8 miles of walking and equestrian trails. In tandem with maintaining, preserving, and improving these resources Caleb is implementing strategies to make the property financially self-
sustaining.

His research and work on various aspects of educational innovation and corporate social responsibility have been widely published. Moreover, he has served in leadership roles in a variety of professional organizations including The Conference Board and the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA), Boston College, Center for Corporate Community Relations and worked with the Loudoun County, VA, Chamber of Commerce to develop the Senior Leadership Council, which merged with and became the CEO Cabinet.

Caleb holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
