Hiking and Trail Fest: Oatlands
April 4 @ 5:00 am - 12:00 pm
Come out and celebrate the grand opening of the new trail system at Oatlands National Historic Trust. Located south of Leesburg near the Goose Creek State Scenic River in the beautiful Virginia Horse Country, the new trail system showcases towering hardwood forests, stream valleys, open meadows, excellent views of Bull Run Mountain and one of the most historic early American homes in Virginia.
Hike distance: 6 miles over flat to slightly rolling terrain.
Constructed by volunteers from Sierra Club Potomac Region Outings and Potomac Heritage Trail Association, this new trail system will soon become a major destination for hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area. Plans also calls for Oatlands to be the start of a future long distance Goose Creek Stream Valley Trail stretching from Oatlands to the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail on the Potomac River.
After the hike, enjoy the Oatlands Trail Fest, which includes a tour of the Oatlands Manor House, and bring your own lunch at the Oatlands Carriage House. Entrance fee to Oatlands: $10 (see link below to pre-pay).
Meet at 9:AM at main Oatlands parking lot off of U.S, 15 along the Journey Through Hallowed Ground National Heritage Byway.
